A method for adjusting a focus bias is provided to improve recording quality by adjusting the focus bias for a blank disc as an optimum value. A control unit sets a focus bias as a certain reference value with respect to a certain interval on an optical disc, and records certain test data(S201). The control unit reproduces the recorded test data for the certain interval, and measures a beta value of the reproduced signal for the interval(S202). The control unit determines a focus bias value on the basis of the beta value for the interval(S203-S205). The optical disc is a blank disc in which data are not recorded.
