A video camera is based on a standard defining the codec class classifying the codec performance for encoding or decoding data and the codec level as a collection of at least one codec class whose upper node compatibility is guaranteed for H.264/AVC, for example, as a data encoding or decoding method. In the video camera, data is encoded, for example, into encoded data of codec class #2 among the codec level AVC_A by the H.264/AVC. The encoded data is recorded as a file name expressing the codec level AVC_A of the encoded data such as "AVCA0001.MP4" in a recording medium.
