The aim of the invention is to be able to detect also condensate, for example, on the interior face (7) of a window (5) by means of motor vehicle rain sensors which utilize the interference of the total reflection of light (1) irradiated by a transmitter on a boundary surface (window) covered with moisture (10). Said aim is achieved by several sensors which are provided with a variable design and function such that the same can selectively include interior/exterior detection while being able to distinguish well between outside moisture and inside moisture without having to take complex adaptive steps.
