The sensor has three polar wheels (W1, W2, W3) rotating at different speeds. A clock wheel (WH) rotation is associated with the polar wheel (W1). The wheels are associated to respective magnetic sensing probes (S1, S2, S3, SH). Each of the polar wheels has a magnetic mark (MK1, MK2, MK3), and clock wheel has equally distributed magnetic marks (MKH). Passage of one of the marks in front of the sensing probe activates the sensing probe. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating an absolute rotation sensor.
