SOLUTION: This hot water storage type water heater has an out-of-hot water usable hot water quantity setting means 34 for setting a starting usable hot water quantity to determine the start of the out-of-hot water boiling-up operation, to an optional value by every time, and a heating means 14 is started and stopped on the basis of the starting usable hot water quantity set by the out-of-hot water usable hot water quantity setting means 34, and an usable hot water quantity calculated by an usable hot water quantity calculating means 47.
