PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device for an image forming apparatus, whose fixing device uses two or more heater lamps but uses fewer thermostats, achieving the fixing device that is inexpensive, and to provide a fixing method. SOLUTION: The fixing device includes a first heater disposed in the lengthwise middle of the main body of a roller, and second heaters disposed in the lengthwise ends of the main body of the roller. The single thermostat is disposed in the position where a temperature difference between a first temperature when only the first heater is turned on and a second temperature when only the second heaters are turned on is within a prescribed range.
