PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compound machine tool, reduced in tool width to achieve size reduction, so that the whole installation space is reduced in the case of application to a production machining line in which a single-spindle machine tool and a compound machine tool are intermingled. SOLUTION: First and second machining units 12, 13 are mounted on the top surface of one bed 11. A Y-axis saddle 22 reciprocating in the vertical direction is mounted on a Z-axis 15 constituting both machining units 12, 13 and reciprocating in the direction of Z-axis. A multi-axis spindle head 27 including a plurality of spindles 28 is mounted on the Y-axis saddle 22. On the other hand, a workpiece tool 36 supporting a workpiece W is mounted on the top surface of the bed 11 to reciprocate in the direction of X-axis, and the workpiece tool 36 is constructed to reciprocate between the origin position P0 and a first machining position P1 or a second machining position P2.
