PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lens controller capable of preventing ramping from occurring in advance when manually driving a lens by using a zoom operation member. SOLUTION: A drive unit 12 which couples a zoom driving motor ZM with a zoom ring provided in a lens barrel 2 for a photographic lens so as to turn the zoom ring by motor-driving is coupled with the lens barrel 2. A clutch mechanism is provided between the zoom ring and the zoom driving motor ZM. In a manual mode in which the zoom ring is manually operated to turn to perform zoom operation, the clutch mechanism is turned off and the zoom driving motor ZM is set to a condition that it is disconnected from the zoom ring. In the manual mode, a diaphragm position and a zoom position are detected, and if ramping happens to occur, the clutch mechanism is switched to be on so as to make the load of the zoom ring large and make it difficult to perform the turning operation of the zoom ring, whereby ramping is prevented.
