A video device and a method for controlling the same are provided to prevent a black muting screen from being unnecessarily stored, and realize recording according to sections which a user desires. A tuner(101) receives a broadcasting stream including EPG(Electronic Program Guide) information. A demodulator(102) demodulates the received broadcasting stream. A flag generator temporarily stores the demodulated broadcasting stream, and inserts at least one of a start flag and a stop flag at the changing time of an input signal. A selector selects a section to be semipermanently stored from the temporarily stored broadcasting stream, wherein the selected section is specified based on the inserted flag. A controller(108) semipermanently stores the selected section by using at least one of the start flag and the stop flag, except a black muting screen generated at the changing time of the input signal.
