PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a servo writer and its writing method that can reduce the load for exchanging writing heads. SOLUTION: This servo writer has a write head 1 with its magnetic gap MG formed on its sliding surface 13a in contact with a magnetic tape MT to write servo signals SS on it. The sliding surface 13a has another magnetic gap SG as a backup for the magnetic gap MG. This servo writer can write servo signals SS on the magnetic tape MT by using the backup magnetic gap SG instead of the magnetic gap MG even if it is damaged. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
