<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus achieving miniaturization by optimally arranging components. <P>SOLUTION: A left side plate 14 is provided with a Z-bent part 14a in a direction where the longitudinal distance of a process cartridge 2 is narrowed at the downstream part of the process cartridge 2 in a recording material conveying direction, and provided with a recessed area 14b by a level difference formed by the Z-bent part 14a.
