PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glass substrate usable for a wide field by solving respective problems of a high strain point glass substrate and an alkali-free glass plate, which are glass substrates particularly used in a display field. SOLUTION: The substrate glass for a display device substantially contains, by weight, 52 to 59% SiO<SB>2</SB>, 3 to 12% Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, 2.0 to 3.5% Na<SB>2</SB>O, 0.3 to 1.5% K<SB>2</SB>O, 2.5 to 4% R<SB>2</SB>O (wherein, R is Li, Na or K), 0.55 to 0.88% Na<SB>2</SB>O/R<SB>2</SB>O, 3 to 5.5% MgO, 4 to 8% CaO, 5 to 11% SrO, 9 to 17% BaO, 25 to 32% R'O (wherein, R' is Mg, Ca, Sr or Ba), and 1 to 4.5% ZrO<SB>2</SB>.
