PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a raw material silicon melt from sticking to the upper inner wall of a refining crucible to prevent the raw material loss due to sticking and the contamination of the raw material during the refining due to drop of the raw material stuck early in the refining. SOLUTION: By heating the upper part of the crucible for a slag refining furnace for metal silicon with an electric heater, an induction heater or a gas burner to keep the inner surface of the crucible within 300 mm from the surface of the melt at a temperature or higher which is lower than the melting point of a metal to be refined by 200°C, the raw material molten metal never sticks and solidifies on the spot even if it is scattered and comes into contact with the surface of the crucible, and can be returned into the raw material in the refining crucible while being kept as melt.
