PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a testing method for an elevator shock absorbing unit capable of easily performing a test by one person. SOLUTION: In the operation test for an elevator oil-filled shock absorbing unit, a control means for controlling a car 1 and a balance weight 4 performs control so as to make an output of an excessive descending or excessive ascending detection means of the car 1 and the balance weight 4 invalid according to receiving of test instruction of the oil-filled shock absorbing unit 14 output from a maintenance terminal device 18 connected through a communication circuit 16, subsequently performs control such that the car 1 or the balance weight 4 performs excessive descending-travel so as to fully compress the oil-filled shock absorbing unit 14 by the car 1 or the balance weight 4, and performs control such that the car 1 or the balance weight 4 finally performs ascending-travel to a predetermined height position.
