PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize aeration when a fluid passage is filled with brake fluid, in a BBW (brake-by-wire) type brake device. SOLUTION: When the inside of the fluid passages 17a to 17p is evacuated from a port P3 of a reservoir 31 so as to fill the fluid passages 17a to 17p of the BBW type brake device with brake fluid, even if a negative pressure is generated in a fluid chamber 24 of brake force generating means 17F, 17R, forward traveling of a piston 21 due to the negative pressure is interrupted, and blocking of a second port P2 of a cylinder 20 due to the piston 21 can be prevented. Therefore, the first and second ports P1, P2 of the cylinder 20 are communicated, and the whole of the fluid passages 17a to 17p is evacuated to minimize mixing of air.
