PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable hair dryer excellent in safety, capable of securely igniting a burner. SOLUTION: The portable hair dryer comprises the burner for burning gas fed from a gas cylinder, an igniting mechanism for igniting the burner, an ignition detecting part for detecting the ignition of the burner, a fan for blowing air heated around the burner by the burning of the gas as hot wind from an outlet, and a control part for controlling the speed of rotation of a motor to drive the fan. The igniting mechanism ignites the burner while the motor is rotated at low speed, and the control part increases the rotational frequency of the motor to a prescribed high rotational frequency in a prescribed period of time when the ignition detecting part detects the ignition of the burner while the motor is rotated at low speed.
