LED DRIVING APPARATUS

An apparatus for driving an LED(Light Emitting Diode) is provided to prevent breakage of a circuit due to an avalanche phenomenon by blocking current applied to LEDs when a predetermined number of the LEDs are disconnected. An apparatus for driving an LED includes a current adjusting unit(10), a voltage detector(40), and a PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) blocking unit(50). The current adjusting unit adjusts a current magnitude of the LED(30) corresponding to a PWM signal. The voltage detector detects a voltage of the LED. The PWM blocking unit compares a predetermined reference voltage with the detected voltage from the voltage detector and blocks the supply of the PWM signal to the current adjusting unit when the detected voltage is smaller than the reference voltage. The voltage detector detects the voltage of the LED using a resistor.
