PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite clay composition in which a SiO<SB>2</SB>crystal of opal and cristobalite contained in many kinds of smectite-based clay as an inevitable impurity is decreased and which contains a smectite-group clay mineral component. SOLUTION: The composite clay composition is composed of a smectite-group clay mineral (A) and synthetic talc (B) and characterized in that diffraction peaks derived from the [001] plane of smectite and the [001] plane of synthetic talc disappear substantially.
