PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video signal recorder/reproducer which can update a thumbnail image created and displayed by request from a user, and to provide a thumbnail image display system utilizing it. SOLUTION: The video signal recorder/reproducer comprises a DVD recorder 20 having a thumbnail image recording section 26 for acquiring an image after elapsing a preset reproduction time from the image in a video image content utilized for creation of a thumbnail image provided previous time when an update thumbnail image acquisition request for requesting update of a thumbnail image provided already to a user terminal 10 is received from the user terminal 10 and recording it as an update thumbnail image, and the user terminal 10 for acquiring and displaying the thumbnail image recorded in the DVD recorder 20.
