PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel method for preparing 2-mercaptonicotinate. SOLUTION: The method for preparing a 2-mercaptonicotinate compound represented by the general formula (A) (wherein R<SP>1</SP>represents a group or an atom selected from among a chain or cyclic alkyl group, an alkoxyl group, an alkoxycarbonyl group, a phenyl group, and a halogen atom and R<SP>2</SP>represents a 1-6C alkyl group) comprises a step of causing a 2-mercaptonicotinic acid compound to react with an alcohol compound in the presence of an acidic ion exchange resin.
