PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a generation of friction lights and scratches on a surface of wallpaper due to the friction of the wallpaper with a press roller surface in an automatic wallpaper pasting apparatus. SOLUTION: The generation of the friction lights and scratches on the surface of the wallpaper due to the friction of the wallpaper with the surface of the press roller 7 can be prevented by making a rotation of the press roller 7 free to make a circumferential speed of the press roller 7 and a feed speed of the wallpaper equal. Further, the press roller 7 may also be driven by a gear. In that case, a speed ratio of a train of gears is to be set so that the circumferential speed of the press roller 7 becomes equal to the circumferential speed of a feeding roller 3 or quicken slightly, and a torque restriction mechanism is provided between a roller shaft of the press roller 7 and the gear. When the feed speed of the wallpaper becomes smaller than the circumferential speed of the feeding roller, and a load torque applied to the press roller 7 increases, a drive force transmitted from the gear to the press roller 7 is blocked.
