PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a reduced metal having a large grain diameter and to produce the reduced metal of high quality from a metal-containing material having little content of metal component. SOLUTION: In a method for producing the reduced metal, with which mixed raw materials containing metal-containing material and solid reducing material, are charged and piled on the solid reducing material layer on a furnace hearth horizontally shifting in a shifting type hearth furnace to form a raw material charging layer, and the reduced metal is produced by heating and reducing the raw material charging layer during shifting of the furnace hearth in the furnace and by introducing it into a molten state at least at one time, the above raw material charging layer and the solid reducing material layer are formed to be a recessed and projective layer where quadrangular-pyramid state recessed parts are continued to produce the reduced metal.
