PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain good padding results for each output device which combines and outputs additional information, depending on the performance of the output device, and to eliminate such troubles that the embedding system or the printing format is altered arbitrarily by an installed application or external user operation. SOLUTION: Embedding system of positional information is managed in units of jobs, and a job and a device that are to be used in a job tree are decided (step S12). When only a color printer is used, a system for embedding positional information, by varying the pixel value of original image data (color or color tone), e.g. digital watermarking for multi-value color image, is selected as the padding system of positional information (step S13). In case of an Fax module, a system for embedding positional information by depicting a combination of points, e.g. a two-dimensional bar code, is selected as the embedding system of positional information (step S14).
