PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of remodeling a toilet from a Japanese style to a Western style, which is implemented by removing an upper portion of a Japanese style toilet bowl to form a new floor surface, and setting a Western style toilet bowl on the new floor surface, wherein the method contributes to prevention of breakage and fall of a residual body of the Japanese style toilet bowl, and facilitates remodeling work. SOLUTION: When the upper portion of the Japanese style toilet bowl 10 is removed, the upper portion of the Japanese style toilet bowl 10 is removed down to a predetermined depth from an upper surface of a floor slab 1 (surface layer 1b), and the surface layer 1b on the periphery of the Japanese style toilet bowl 10 is also removed down to the same depth, so as to form a stepped recess 1c on the periphery of the Japanese style toilet bowl 10. Then a drain pipe 21 is erected so as to communicate with a drain port 11 of the Japanese style toilet bowl 10. Next a foamed polystyrene plate 22 is fitted into an upper portion of the Japanese style toilet bowl 10, and a self-hardening filler 23 is filled and embedded in an area over the plate and in the stepped recess 1c.
