<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide genes that control the coloration of a plant body, more specifically, genes that control the coloration of a plant body or its seed, and to provide a method for producing a plant body(transformed plant body) in which either one of the genes is expressed and its seed is colored, furthermore, to provide a method for controlling seed color by modifying the expression of either one of the genes. <P>SOLUTION: It has been succeeded to identify Rc and Rd genes having the function of controlling the coloration of a plant body. By expressing either one of these genes in a plant body, white rice can be modified to e.g. red-colored rice/brown-colored rice. Besides, by this method, a plant body or seeds thereof accumulated with tannins can be created. Rice accumulated with tannins is useful as a functional food. Furthermore, by suppressing the expression of either one of these genes, colored rice can also be modified to white rice. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
