PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pencil sharpener which can reduce a number of components and be constituted at a low cost, facilitate a cutter replacement and keep precision even after reassembly. SOLUTION: This pencil sharpener includes a cutter 8 which has a helical cutting blade on a columnar surface and also, rotary shafts 11a and 11b arranged on both ends, bearing parts 12a and 12b for retaining the rotary shafts 11a and 11b of the cutter 8 in a freely rotating manner and a cutter holder 3 which is rotatably driven by a manual or motor-driven rotating means. At least, one of the rotary shafts 11a and 11b of the cutter 8 is inserted into at least one of the bearing parts 12a and 12b of the cutter holder 3 from an opposite direction to the cutter holder rotational direction when the pencil is sharpened.
