PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a protective fence which has a simple structure and prevents the toppling of an end pole due to a tensile force of lateral ropes. SOLUTION: A plurality of poles 2, 3, and 3A are erected at intervals, and a cover 56 is placed on the top of the 2, 3, and 3A. The lateral ropes 4 are stretched between the poles 2 and 3A at vertical intervals, and the ends of the lateral ropes 4 are connected to the poles 2 and 3A. The end pole 2 and the pole 3 adjacent thereto are connected via a connecting beam 6 receiving a compressive force, which connecting beam 6 is connected to the upper part of the poles 2 and 3 below the cover 56. When a force of inwardly toppling the end pole 2 is applied as a result of stretching the lateral ropes 4 between the poles 2, 3, and 3A at vertical intervals, a compressive force acts on the connecting beam 6 connected to the pole 3 adjacent to the pole 2, which resists against the toppling force.
