<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable an electrophotographic printer equipped with paper end section position detection capability of a paper width direction by the optical line sensor to identify whether abnormalities in data of an optical line sensor are based on operator's operation error or based on a failure of an apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: In the electrophotographic printer prepared in a conveyance path of a printing sheet conveyed to a photoconductor drum and having an optical line sensor for detecting an end position of a width direction of this form, light of a predetermined light amount is emitted in a light emitting section of the optical line sensor and acquiring the end position data of the printing sheet from a photodetector. When the data indicate zero, the light amount of the luminescence section is increased and the end data of the form are again acquired from the photodetector; when this is also recognized that an open circuit, etc. is unusual at the time of zero; and when the second data do not indicate zero, it is recognized as an operating failure. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
