HEAT-RESISTANT LIGHT DIFFUSER PLATE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop a heat-resistant light diffuser plate having less deformation due to heat upon lighting a cold cathode ray tube. SOLUTION: The heat-resistant diffuser plate (11) comprises a styrene monomer-maleic acid anhydride copolymer with a light diffusing agent dispersed therein. The content of the styrene monomer units in the styrene monomer-maleic acid anhydride copolymer is normally 80 to 95 mol%. The plate has a thickness of 1 to 3 mm. A multilayer light diffuser plate (10) may be used by layering a UV absorbing layer (12) comprising a transparent resin containing a UV absorbent on the heat-resistant light diffuser plate (11). A backlight device using the heat-resistant light diffuser plate (11) or the multilayer light diffuser plate (10) is incorporated together with a liquid crystal cell into a direct liquid crystal display.
