PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a girder construction method which can save manpower or the like by reducing the ascent and descent of a girder as much as possible, and which can meet expectations for improvement in safety. SOLUTION: A main girder is constructed through a track-rail-placement process, an erection garter construction process, a main girder delivery process, a main-girder-interception process, and a main-girder- installment process. The track-rail-placement process is for extending a track rail 12 beyond the end of a bridge abutment 1, for forming a through space 18 by erecting the tip of the extended track rail on the support pad 17, and for placing the track rail 12b on the other side at a location some distance from the track rail 12a on the frontward side. The erection garter construction process is for placing an erection garter 15 over the track rail on the frontward side and the track rail on the other side. Then the main girder delivery process is for stopping the erection garter on the extended track rail, moving forward the main girder 3 in a state that it is suspended from the erection garter, and delivering the main girder by making it pass by the side of the bridge abutment 1a. The main-girder-interception process is for moving the erection garter in a state that the main girder is suspended. Then the main-girder-installation process is for installing the main girder by lowering the suspended main girder and mounting one end of the main girder on the overlapping surface of one bridge abutment and by mounting the other end of the main girder on the girder-supporting part of a bridge pier.
