PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily perform phase matching of a plurality of image carriers on a market. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes the plurality of image carriers 2, and phase matching mechanisms 5 that performs phase matching of the corresponding image carriers 2. Each phase matching mechanism 5 has: a rotatable engagement member 6 disposed on the same shaft as the rotary shaft of the corresponding image carrier 2 and rotated together with the rotary shaft; and a rotatable guide engagement member 7 with which the rotatable engagement member 6 engages when the image carrier 2 is mounted on a regular mounting position in the housing 1 of the apparatus through a predetermined operating stroke or a rotatable guide engagement member 7 with which the rotatable engagement member 6 engages after the image carrier 2 is mounted on the regular mounting position in the housing 1 of the apparatus and then moved by the predetermined operating stroke. The rotatable engagement member 6 of each image carrier 2 has a non-engagement part 6b that disengages from the guide engagement member 7 at the point of time the respective image carriers 2 reach its reference phase position m.
