An error correction block, a method and an apparatus for generating an error correction block, and an error correction method are provided to offer higher reliable data to a user while maintaining reproduction compatibility with an error correction block according to an existing standardized format. An extra error correction block generating unit(210) receives data of a size which is smaller than main data of a reference format, adds additional information including at least an EDC(Error Detection Code) to the input data, adds extra parity information for error correction to the input data to which the additional information is added, and generates an extra error correction block. An error correction block generating unit(220) replaces data of a part corresponding to the additional information in the extra parity information of the generated extra error correction block with corresponding additional information according to the reference format, adds parity information for error correction to the extra error correction block in which the additional information is replaced, and generates and outputs an error correction block according to the reference format.
