A device and a method for providing local information based on public transportation are provided to offer the desired information between bus stop information and local information around a bus stop to a mobile terminal of a passenger when the passenger uses the public transportation with a transportation card. A fare collection terminal(310-31N) checks unique ID information of a payment tool when the passenger makes payment with the fare payment tool. A link information generator(330) generates the local information around the bus stop in which the fare collection terminal is placed. A message transmitter(340) transmits an SMS(Short Message Service) message including the local information to the mobile terminal(350) previously registered by linking with the unique ID information of the fare payment tool. A location checker(320) checks the location of the fare collection terminal through a GPS(Global Positioning System). The fare payment tool is a pre/post-payment transportation card(300) or the mobile terminal embedded with a payment tool. |
