The device has a compass shaped support (11) with two telescopic branches (12, 13) articulated at their connection point. A nut/ screw system (20) adjusts the gap between the branches. Wedges (31, 32) position the branches to a periphery of pipe or on a weld of a tube (1). A transfer tube (40) positions the gamma rays source (S) passing through an articulation axle (23) of the branches, where the gamma rays are directed in a plane of welding. A notch (60) supports a radiographic film (7) opposite to the source with respect to the welding. An independent claim is also included for a process of radiography by gamma rays from the welding of tube.
