Provided is an extract of Maackia fauriei which is able to inhibit melanogenesis by having excellent inhibitory activity on tyrosinase and has excellent free-radical scavenging capacity so as to be usefully used as an anti-oxidative and skin whitening composition. The cosmetic composition for anti-oxidation and whitening comprises 0.01-5 wt.% of an extract of Maackia fauriei as an effective ingredient, which is extracted by using at least one solvent selected from the group consisting of water, C1-4 alcohol, propylene glycol, ethyl acetate, butylene glycol, ether, and chloroform. The composition is in the form of skin lotion, skin softener, skin toner, astringent, lotion, milk lotion, moisture lotion, nutritive lotion, massage cream, nutritive cream, moisture cream, hand cream, foundation, essence, nutritive essence, pack, soap, cleansing foam, cleansing lotion, cleansing cream, body or body cleanser.
