Treating and preventing post-menopausal cardiovascular disease in women comprises administration of a triphenyl substituted butene derivative of formula (I) or its acid addition salts: X = 3- or 4- iodo or bromo; R1, R2 = 1-3C alkyl (especially Me or Et); or R1 = H and R2 = 1-3C alkyl; or NR1R2 = a saturated heterocycle, typically having 5-6 members, especially pyrrolidino, piperidino, 4-methylpiperidino or morpholino. N.B. formula and definitions do not appear in the claims and have been taken from the disclosure. Also claimed is the use of (I) in the mfr of a medicament for treating cardiovascular disease in women.
