PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection display device capable of performing a display of resolution being the integral multiple of that of a spatial optical modulator and performing a display suitable for natural image display. SOLUTION: The projection display device is composed of at least a light source 11 radiating light; the spatial optical modulator 13 forming a pixel; an illumination optical system 12 uniformly illuminating the spatial optical modulator 13 with the light; and a projection lens 15 for projecting the image light from the spatial optical modulator to a screen 16. In the projection display device, the respective pixels of the spatial optical modulator 13 are arranged in delta array, and an optical path deflecting element 14 is arranged in space from the spatial optical modulator 13 to the screen 16. Since respective pixels of the spatial optical modulator 13 are arranged in delta array in the projection display device, display suitable for the natural image display can be made. By shifting the optical path by means of the optical path deflecting element 14, the display with the pixels being the integral multiple of those of the spatial optical modulator is achieved.
