The operating process is for a drive unit (1), a computer program product with program code and a computer program. The adaptation of a loss torque can take place other than in idling mode. The losses of an output value of the drive unit, such as torque, are adapted during a period in which the drive unit is switched off. A device to implement the process is also described.
