PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing EVOH, comprising high polymerization rate copolymerization of ethylene with vinyl acetate and, by saponifying the obtained EVA, obtaining the EVOH excellent in thermal stability and controlling discoloration thereof. SOLUTION: The ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer is obtained by using a peroxydicarbonate represented by general formula (1) (wherein, R is a 6-12C unsubstituted cycloalkyl or a 12-16C alkyl) as a polymerization initiator and copolymerizing ethylene with vinyl acetate in the presence of the initiator. The ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer saponification products are obtained by saponifying the ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer in methanol in the presence of a catalyst. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
