PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a proximity sensor and proximity/contact sensor having high detection sensitivity to a proximity of a sensing object, capable of sensing in a stable state, obtaining quantitative sensing such as a proximity speed, and distinguishing a sensing object type. SOLUTION: A sensor element 11 constituting the proximity sensor 10 is formed of coil-shaped carbon fiber 12 distributed in a matrix material 13 including inductance (L) component, capacitance (C) component, and resistance (R) component, based on a coil shape, thus functioning as an LCR resonance circuit. On the bottom face of the sensor element 11, a pair of electrodes 14 are connected, and between the electrodes 14, there are connected a sensor circuit 16, and a display unit 18 for displaying an output waveform on a screen. Preferably, the matrix material 13 contains 1-20 mass% of coil-shaped carbon fiber 12, and the frequency of a high frequency signal by a high frequency oscillator circuit is preferably 100-800 kHz.
