<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sponge which is excellent in quality and comprised of a natural material, and can be produced at a low cost. <P>SOLUTION: The sponge is produced by the following process. A water-soluble polymer is added to a viscose solution, a cuprammonium solution, or the like of a polysaccharide, that is currently manufactured cheaply by means of an established method for producing general-purpose articles, and the resultant admixture is allowed to coagulate, then treated with hot water, and finally freeze-dried, wherein, polysaccharide materials include cellulose or its derivative, chitin or a deacetylated chitin or its derivative, a mixture of cellulose and chitin and a mixture of cellulose and deacetylated chitin. By the simple method, a sponge of polysaccharide of high quality can be made from a polysaccharide material at a reduced cost. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
