A lancet having a body portion, a sharp tip element, a removable endcap, the endcap and the body portion including cooperating guidance features to maintain alignment of the endcap and prevent damage to the tip element during removal of the endcap, an indicator to distinguish a new lancet from a used lancet, and a gripping surface on the endcap for facilitating removal.
