<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an article equipped with an information recording medium, in which the information recording medium with confidential information unrecognizable to the naked eye is arranged by superposition on printed matter, and a reader which can surely perform a discrimination between the presence and absence of the confidential information in the information recording medium, and the information reproduction (reading) of the confidential information, without being affected by the color and pattern of the printed matter of the article. <P>SOLUTION: In the article with the information recording medium, a group of a plurality of minute diffraction grating elements, which have a diffraction grating with a set grating space and a set grating angle and which are equipped with the confidential information unrecognizable to the naked eye, is formed on the surface of a base material; and the information recording medium, which enables the predetermined confidential information to be read and detected by the reproduction information of the diffraction grating from the group of the diffraction grating elements, is arranged on the surface of the printed matter.
