PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid detergent composition that rapidly disperses and dissolves when diluted, does not damage the material to be washed and increases its pH when diluted to exhibit enhanced deterging power though it has a high viscosity suitable for coating use, and to provide a method for washing. SOLUTION: The liquid detergent composition comprises (a) hydrogen peroxide, (b) a nonionic surfactant expressed by general formula (I) and having an addition distribution of a particular ethylene oxide, (c) a boron compound, (d) a polyol compound, and (e) a particular amount of water, wherein equivalents of the surfactant described in JIS K3362:1998 is 5-50 mass%. The washing method comprises applying the liquid detergent composition on the material to be washed and subsequently diluting the liquid detergent composition with water. The general formula (I) is R<SP>1</SP>-O-(CH<SB>2</SB>CH<SB>2</SB>O)<SB>n</SB>-H, wherein R<SP>1</SP>is 7-18C alkyl etc., n is a number of 1-20, and n<SB>AV</SB>, an average of n, is 3-15.
