PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for removing residual slag from an aluminum extruding die by which the residual slag is easily removed from the extruding die without requiring a great deal of time, processes and labors, and when heating sodium hydroxide, no gas nor sludge nor waste liquor are produced, and hence cost for treating them is not generated and environment is not adversely affected, and by which the residual slag of aluminum can be recoverd and reused without being discarded, and to provide an apparatus therefor. SOLUTION: By this method, the residual slag of aluminum or an aluminum alloy is separated and removed from the extruding die by heating the extruding die to which the residual slag of the aluminum or the aluminum alloy has been stuck up to 600-800°C by a heating means. The apparatus is provided with an approximately hermetically sealed heating chamber, the heating means for raising the temperature inside the heating chamber up to 600-800°C, a die arranging part for arranging the die inside the heating chamber and a residual slag recovering part for recovering the residual slag.
