<p>1,166,117. Valves. NORD-AVIATION SOC. NATIONALE DE CONSTRUCTIONS AERONAUTIQUES. 19 Oct., 1966 [17 Dec., 1965], No. 46868/66. Heading F2V. Valve, particularly for controlling gas flow in artificial satellites for stabilization purposes, includes a loose ball closure 1a which may be of superfinished bearing type steel co-operating with a seat 1b which may be of plastics material such as P.T.F.E. The ratio of ball diameter to seat opening may be 1À5 and the opening may have a radius of a few microns. The ball closure is spring loaded through a piston 2c carried in a sleeve 2a which also co-operates with the seat 1b to provide an additional closure. This sleeve constitutes the armature of a solenoid 5<SP>1</SP> which is energized to open the valve. The existence and duration of flow through an outlet Venturi 5c can be recorded through a signal from an electric switch 7c when this is actuated by a diaphragm 7a responsive to pressure in an outlet conduit 5b. In another embodiment, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown) the ball closure is on the upstream side of the seat and is actuated through a push rod, the sleeve 2a being omitted.</p> |
