PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a roll for rolling in which problems in the conventional rolling roll are solved, and which has an external layer having excellent wear resistance and roughening resistance, and further having extremely excellent toughness. SOLUTION: The composite roll for rolling has the external layer formed by centrifugal casting in which MC carbides are dispersed by 20 to 50% in area ratio, and fracture toughness value KIC is≥80 kgf/mm<SP>3/2</SP>. The external layer has a structure where MC carbides having an aspect ratio of≥2.0 are dispersed in≥10% by area ratio, and has chemical components comprising, by mass, 2.5 to 7.5% C, 0.1 to 3.5% Si, 0.1 to 3.5% Mn and 11.0 to 30.0% V, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurity elements.
