PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent occurrence of grip marks without the need of additional equipment such as press rolls and a complicated control in a tension reel having a gripper. SOLUTION: In the tension reel 10 having the gripper 24, an angleθof a surface of the gripper 24 which is brought into contact with the metallic strip 8 in the peripheral direction of a mandrel is taken as≤30°and an auxiliary segment 30 in which the curvature of the surface which is brought into contact with the metallic strip 8 is coincided with the curvature of the segment is provided so as to be rockable on the segment 22B adjacent to the gripper 24 in the winding direction of the metallic strip 8 and the position in the radial direction of the mandrel of the surface which is brought into contact with the metallic strip 8 of the auxiliary segment 30 when the metallic strip is coiled is made so as to be lowered from the segment 22 by the same quantity as the thickness of the metallic strip 8 at the end part on the side of the gripper 24 in the peripheral direction of the mandrel and difference in level from the segment 22 is eliminated in the end part of the opposite side to the gripper 24.
