The seat assembly 74 of a spherical plug valve having a body 12 and a plug 34, is formed of to annular rings 78 and 80 and is biased on to the plug by a spring 77, the rings being so arranged that there is formed between them an L-shaped annular chamber 106, 114, which terminates in a generally triangular chamber 108 housing an annular resilient sealing ring 84, a portion 86 of which ring 84 projects outwardly of the assembly for engagement with the plug 34. The outermost surface of ring 80 is formed with a plurality of parallel and axially extending grooves 112 which prevent a seal being formed between ring 80 and sealing ring 84, the arrangement being such that lubricant supplied to chamber 108 from a connection 94, passages 92, 96, and chamber 106, 114, can be conducted to the working surface 91 of the plug 34. In an alternative embodiment, (Fig. 4, not shown), the outermost surface of ring 80 is made smooth and the innermost surface of the sealing ring 84 is provided with the parallel grooves, the ultimate effect being similar to that in the above described embodiment.</p> |
