PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information recorder capable of saving electric power, capable of attaining high-speed and reliable writing and reading operations for the information, and allowing convenient handling for a user, in the information recorder for recording information to a disk-like recording medium, using a nonvolatile memory as a cache, and a control method therefor. SOLUTION: This information recorder is provided with an input means 21 for inputting a command, the disk-like recording medium 14, the nonvolatile memory 15 serving as a cache memory to the disk-like recording medium 14, acquisition means 19a-19e for acquiring status information indicating a state of the nonvolatile memory 15, and a control means 16 for outputting the status information acquired by the acquisition means 19a-19e, based on a status request command input into the input means 21.
